Finally finished a shamefully overdue chapter for what promises to be an excelled edited collection, Imagining Irish Suburbia, edited by Simon and Eoghan from Carlow College. A few months ago, I recorded in my journal, that both academic and creative writing brought with them the same sense of relief (though I must admit the sense of achievement is actually sweeter when you birth a work of fiction).
However, it was sheer joy writing about the work of Aideen Barry, as usual - her visions of domestic dystopias are so powerful and moving, like Possession (below). And now my final academic deadline of the summer is over!
To celebrate I drew up a shortlist of anthologies who are taking in submissions between now and mid-September - eight new targets!
